On July 16, 2018, VWC began verifying DN0006, Insurer FEIN, against the VWC database to ensure the Insurer FEINs received are valid. To be specific, we are validating on insurer FEIN only, not for specific policy information/dates, employer data correlating to the insurer FEIN, etc… but only to see if the insurer FEIN listed on the transaction is a valid insurer FEIN for a carrier that is licensed and registered to do business in Virginia. This means if you submit a transaction with an insurer FEIN that is not a valid FEIN the transaction will reject instead of accept. This is the same process that causes the generation of the Invalid Insurer FEIN letters today.
